The Hands-on Skills Training program at KESSD is designed to bridge the gap between education and employment for Kampala’s street children. Recognizing that traditional academic pathways may not meet the needs of every individual, we have developed a program focused on practical, job-ready skills that empower these young people to build sustainable careers.
Our training program is diverse, covering a wide range of vocational skills tailored to the needs of the local economy. Whether it’s carpentry, plumbing, tailoring, ICT, or other trades, we provide comprehensive training that not only teaches the technical skills required for these jobs but also instills a strong work ethic and business acumen. By focusing on practical skills, we ensure that our graduates are not only employable but also capable of starting their own small businesses, thus contributing to the local economy.
The program is hands-on, with a strong emphasis on real-world experience. Our trainees work on live projects, often contributing to KESSD’s other initiatives, such as the Green Kampala Initiative or Road Infrastructure Improvement projects. This not only provides them with practical experience but also instills a sense of pride and ownership in the transformation of their city.
We also understand the importance of soft skills in today’s job market. Communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and customer service are integral parts of our training curriculum. These skills are taught alongside technical training, ensuring that our graduates are well-rounded and adaptable in various work environments.
Our ultimate goal is to create a generation of empowered, self-reliant individuals who are equipped to support themselves and their families. By providing street children with the skills they need to succeed in the workforce, we are not only helping them to break free from the cycle of poverty but also contributing to the overall economic development of Kampala. The Hands-on Skills Training program is a vital part of KESSD’s mission to create a sustainable future for all.
We invite businesses and individuals to partner with us in this endeavor. By providing resources, mentorship, or employment opportunities for our graduates, you can play a crucial role in transforming lives and building a stronger, more resilient community in Kampala.
